As I’ve been making the transition into full fledged vegan, I’ve been asked more than once, “What do you eat?” and today someone even said “What do you eat? Lettuce?” Okay. So, first of all, if you’re the type of person to say something like that, fuck you. Stop doing that. I don’t ask you “So all you eat is dead things? Wow!” Why don’t I do that? Because it’s rude. Stop it.
Anyway, I try not to, but I really tend to eat a lot of garbage, or fast food. And believe it or not, many fast food brands carry vegan options, even if they aren’t labeled that way!
5. Basically any Asian restaurant
Whether it’s P.F. Changs or some little hole in the wall down the street, most Asian or Asian inspired restaurants carry vegetarian items, which they specifically advertise. Usually, all you have to do to confirm if it’s vegan is ask if the item has eggs, or milk products. Typically Asian restaurants aren’t big on dairy, so the thing you want to worry about is eggs, which can almost always be removed upon request.
Denny’s! I know Denny’s isn’t technically fast food, but as far as health goes, Denny’s is on par with most fast food joints. Denny’s has a “build-your-own-burger” option and offers a veggie patty! Combine that with no cheese, yummy vegetables, some sauce, and french fries, and you’re set. Also, Denny’s has fruit, vegetables, oatmeal, grits (gotta ask for no cheese or butter) and several vegan salad dressings.
3. Subway/Which Wich
Most white bread at sandwich shops is vegan, so a Veggie Delite from Subway or a vegetable sandwich from Which Wich is filling and delicious.
Chipotle, like Subway and Which Wich, is customizable, so all you do at Chipotle is not order meat and cheese. Their Sofritas, salsa, guacamole, and of course, veggies, are all vegan. So get a taco, burrito, salad, or bowl, and enjoy!
1. Taco Bell
Taco Bell is the clear winner and many vegans love Taco Bell for their totally customizable menu and cheap options. It’s still junk food, but it’s cruelty free! You can ask for any menu item without meat or dairy and it’s almost never a problem for them to make it the way you ask. I’m at Taco Bell way too often.
